Okuma Alarm-A 1717: Unable to Use M40, M43, M44 Commands

Okuma Alarm-A 1717 occurs when the machine control detects that the M40, M43, or M44 commands cannot be used with the current spindle or motor configuration. These commands are typically related to VAC winding changeover motor specifications and are only supported on specific machine setups.

This alarm usually appears when an incompatible M-code is called in the program, incorrect machine parameters are loaded, or the spindle configuration does not support these command functions. It may also occur after software changes, parameter restoration, control modifications, or electrical repairs involving the spindle drive system.

To resolve the issue, verify whether the machine is equipped with a VAC winding changeover type motor and confirm that the selected M40, M43, or M44 command is supported by the installed hardware and control configuration. In some cases, machine parameters, ladder logic, or spindle drive settings may also need to be checked.

If the alarm continues to appear, further diagnostics of the CNC control, spindle drive electronics, or machine configuration may be required.
